Gandharva Mahavidyalaya trust is engaged in twofold activities namely music teaching as well as conducting exams in classical music all over Gujarat.

GANDHARVA MAHAVIDYALAYA - The Classical Music School :

Founded in 1935, it is the oldest Hindustani classical music teaching school in Ahmedabad. Thousands of students from Ahmedabad and nearby villages have taken advantage of the school over the years. Some successful artists also have their roots in the school. Gandharva Mahavidyalaya has contributed a lot in grooming music teachers as well as good listeners. Currently training in classical music in vocal, harmonium and tabla is imparted here.


It is the wing of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya trust that conducts exams in classical music (Vocal, Instrumental and Dance), starting from first year (Sanget Prarambhik) to Graduate (Vishaarad), Post Graduate (Alankar) and Doctoral level (Praveen).

Founded in 1957 by Acharya Shree Ravji bhai Patel, it has grown to the size of a mini-university with nearly 36,000 students appearing yearly for various exams conducted by the Samiti. It has a government approved syllabus and the exams are conducted all over Gujarat, twice a year, in October and April. Over 360 music schools are affiliated to B.G.S.S.

The Certificates given by the Samiti help students obtain employment in private as well as Government schools and organizations like All India Radio and Doordarshan etc.
